Welcome to the web home of Her Texas: Story, Image, Poem & Song. You’ll find here information about our anthology (released in March 2015 on the first day of International Women’s History Month), about our fiercely independent publisher Wings Press of San Antonio, and about the Texas women whose diverse and passionate works fill our pages.
Contributors include the internationally acclaimed poets and novelists Naomi Shihab Nye and Sandra Cisneros; award-winning songwriters Christine Albert, Tish Hinojosa, and Ruthie Foster; 2015 Pushcart Prize-winning writer LaToya Watkins; artists Kathy Vargas, Malou Flato, and Deanna Newcomb; Texas Poets Laureate Rosemary Catacalos, Karla K. Morton, Jan Seale, and Carmen Tafolla; and many others including Sobia Khan, Loretta Diane Walker, Sarah Cortez, Susie Kelly Flatau, Catherine Rainwater, Rebecca Balcarcel, Donna Johnson, Leslie Jill Patterson, Frances Brannen Vick, Guida Jackson, Kathleen Hudson, Deborah Paredez, Hermine Pinson, Charlotee Renk, Ysabel de la Rosa, Diana Lopez, and Lou Rodenberger—the ground-breaking Texas folklorist to whom the anthology is dedicated and in whose name editors’ royalties will be donated to the American Cancer Society earmarked for ovarian and breast cancer research.
Books are available for purchase through this site, as well as through Wings Press, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and independent bookstores including Austin’s Book People and Malvern Books.
